Curious Cat Theatre is a new amateur theatre group in Utrecht (the Netherlands).

Our goal is to show that theatre can be thought-provoking as well as entertaining. Expect plays that range from comedy to science fiction and from well-loved classics to newly written plays by Curious Cats. But always with tightly-plotted storylines, sharp dialogue and something interesting to learn. And on the ‘pure entertainment’ side we are delighted to bring you interactive murder mysteries: a cast of characters you can only love or hate, a murder on stage, a quirky detective and the chance to interrogate everyone and find out whodunit!

We are currently working to get the group officially started. That means a bunch of admin and deciding how we want to run this group. We may want to work with an ensemble of actors, or host open auditions, or decide per play. Keep an eye on our website if you want to be involved! Or send us an email.

Upcoming plays

On 11, 12 and 13 December 2026 we will perform our very first official Curious Cat play! This will be an interactive murder mystery: We wish you a Murderous Christmas.

The history of Curious Cat

We’ve played with the idea of starting a murder mystery theatre group for a while because 1) we love murder mysteries and 2) we love theatre. Then in 2026, our friend Lotte van der Velden had the idea to organise a murder mystery play as a fundraiser for Alpe d’HuZes. She needed a website to promote the play and organise ticket sales, and we needed a good kick to actually set up a website for what would later become our new theatre group. That’s why Lotte’s fundraiser play, Murder on the Mountain, is on the Curious Cat website.

Previous plays

There have been no official Curious Cat productions yet! But if you want to get an idea of what we’re going to do, have a look at the interactive murder mystery: Murder on the Mountain that was performed in Utrecht in April 2026. This was a charity fundraiser for Alpe d’HuZes.

Who are we?

We are Marte and Jasper, scientists with a theatre hobby that has gotten a bit out of hand and a giant orange cat who is now our logo.
